As you embark on planning your wedding, one of the most important decisions that you will make is venue selection. As you begin to think about your ideal venue, there are many factors to consider. Begin by considering the look & feel of the venue:
· Can you truly envision yourself getting married in that specific venue?
· Do you see yourself & your loved ones enjoying your reception as you dance the night away?
A few more important considerations:
· Venue Size: Can the venue comfortably handle your event? What is the maximum guest count that the venue can hold?
· Venue Date/Time Availability: Is the venue available on your preferred date? If not, are you open to another open date? Also, consider the timing and any perimeters that the venue has including set-up & tear-down times. Will there be any other events taking place during your event that you should be aware of?
· Venue Inclusives/Requirements: When selecting a venue, you need to understand/consider what the venue rental actually includes.
o Are tables/chairs/staging included? Is there a limit of available equipment?
o Does the venue set-up/tear down all equipment that they provide (if applicable)?
o Are there any required vendors that you must use when booking the venue such as an exclusive catering company? What are the parameters in relation to the use of alcohol?
o If you are looking at an outdoor venue, does the venue have a weather back-up location that could be used?
o How is parking handled at the venue? Is there a cost to park? Is there ample parking or is parking limited?
· Venue Policies & Regulations: Read through and understand all general venue policies & regulations.
· Venue Pricing: Is the venue pricing within your desired budget? Ensure that you have a clear understanding of the total venue cost including any deposits, ancillary costs, and insurance.
· Venue Contract: When you are ready to sign the venue’s contract, thoroughly read the contract and ensure that you have a full understanding of the legal agreement that you are about to enter into.
· Questions: Don’t be afraid to ask questions as you learn more about each prospective venue.
